Inbox tabs

Split your inbox into tabs of your own, so your team, your clients or your travel each get a place of their own.

Inbox tabs split your inbox into tabs you choose, shown above the list. A tab collects conversations by the people in them, the address they came to, a linked account, a label, attachments, conversations you wrote in, or the kind of smart card they carry. The Inbox tab keeps everything no other tab takes, and every tab shows how many unread conversations it holds.

  • Press + at the end of the tabs to add a ready-made tab in one press, such as Conversations, Travel, Parcels, Bills or Files, or choose Make your own tab.
  • Settings, Inbox tabs is where you build a tab, edit it, change the order or remove it. Double click a tab to get there quickly, or right click it for Edit tab, Move left, Move right and Remove tab without leaving the inbox. Removing a tab deletes no mail: its conversations go back to the Inbox tab, and Undo in the message that follows puts the tab back as it was, in the same place.
  • A person can be an address, such as anna@example.com, or a whole domain, such as @example.com. Anybody in the conversation counts, so a domain catches a whole company.
  • With more than one condition, choose whether a conversation needs any of them or all of them.
  • You can have up to 8 tabs.

One place for every conversation#

A conversation shows in the first tab it fits, in the order of your tabs, and never in two. That is why order matters: put the tab that should win first. Removing a tab deletes nothing, its conversations simply show in the Inbox tab again.

Tabs only sort the inbox. Search, Archive, your folders and labels work exactly as before, and a mail app connected with an app password sees one inbox as it always did.

Words in a subject or a message are not something a tab can look for. To sort on those, make a rule that adds a label, and then a tab for that label.
