The Screener and bundles
Decide once whether you want mail from somebody new, and let newsletters, receipts and updates sort themselves.
On this page
The first message from somebody new does not land in your inbox. It waits in the Screener, with the sender's name and the start of the message, until you decide. You decide once per sender, and that decision holds for everything they send after it.
| Press | What happens |
|---|---|
| Allow into the inbox | Their mail goes to your inbox from now on. |
| Allow into Newsletters, Receipts or Updates | Their mail goes straight to that bundle. |
| Block | Their mail is turned away from now on and you never see it. |
| More ways to block | Block a whole domain rather than one address. |
- Everybody you write to is allowed automatically, so their reply to your message goes to your inbox and joins the conversation. A message that only claims to be a reply, and cannot prove who sent it, waits in the Screener as a conversation of its own.
- Settings, Screener lists every sender you allowed or blocked, and you can change or forget a decision there.
- An allowed sender only skips the Screener when their mail proves it really comes from them. A message that only claims their address waits like any other.
- You can switch the Screener off in Settings, Screener. New senders then go straight to the inbox.
Deciding quickly#
Every decision can be taken back while its notification is showing: press Undo, or z. On a phone, swipe a card right to let somebody in, or left to block them. On a keyboard:
Bundles#
With bundles on, mail that is plainly a newsletter, a receipt or an automatic update goes to its own place in the sidebar, and the inbox is called Focus because what is left is mail from people. Bundles can be switched off in Settings, General.
Unsubscribing#
A newsletter that supports it shows Unsubscribe at the bottom of the message, beside Reply and Forward. One press sends the list's own unsubscribe request for you, so you never have to visit its website. Some lists unsubscribe by email instead: Nemi then shows you where that email goes and sends it only after you confirm, from the address the newsletter came to, saying just unsubscribe. For mail in a linked account, or mail Nemi could not verify, write to the list yourself or mark it as spam.
Spam#
Incoming mail is checked for spam and viruses before you see it. Mail that looks like spam goes to Spam, and mail with a virus is not delivered at all. Press ! on a conversation to report it as spam yourself. Look in Spam now and then: a filter can be wrong.
