Mail troubleshooting

What to do when a message does not arrive, will not send, lands in spam, or a domain will not verify.

Each answer starts with what you see and ends with what to do. Most missing mail is waiting in the Screener or in Spam, so look there first.

Somebody wrote to me and nothing arrived

Look in the Screener first: the first message from somebody new waits there. Then Spam. If you blocked them or their domain earlier, their mail is turned away; Settings, Screener lists your decisions. A full mailbox, or a plan without Nemi Mail, also stops new mail. If it arrived but is not in your inbox, one of your rules may have filed it: Settings, Rules shows each rule and when it last matched, and search finds the message wherever it went.

"New mailboxes can send to 50 recipients a day during their first week"

That is the warm-up. It ends seven days after you claimed your first address, and the message says when. Until then, send to fewer people at once, or send from a linked account.

"Sending from your Nemi addresses is paused"

Too much of your recent mail bounced or was marked as spam by the people who received it. Check that your recipients asked for your mail and that the addresses are right, then contact support to have it reviewed. Receiving keeps working, and so does sending from a linked account.

My message bounced

The receiving server refused it, usually because the address does not exist. Nemi Mail does not write to an address again once it has bounced permanently or its owner has reported mail as spam, so check the spelling and ask for a current address.

"cannot be sent by mail" on an attachment

Programs, scripts, disk images and Office files with macros cannot be attached. Share the file from Files with a link instead, or save the document without macros.

My domain says Something is missing

One of the required records is not found yet. Compare each record with the settings screen character by character: a common mistake is a DNS provider that adds your domain to the name a second time, giving bounce.yourdomain.yourdomain. Press Check again after fixing it.

A linked account says to reconnect

The provider no longer accepts the permission or password Nemi has, often after a password change. Press Sign in again in Settings, Linked accounts. For an IMAP account, unlink it and link it again with the new password.

"We cannot tell whether it left"

The connection broke while the message was being sent, so Nemi cannot know whether it reached the other side. It is not sent again on its own, because a message sent twice is worse than one you check. Ask the recipient, or look in the linked account's Sent folder, before sending it again.

"Still being checked for viruses"

Attachments you received are checked before you can open, save or forward them, which usually takes under a minute. Try again shortly. Files you upload into a message do not stop you sending: press Send and the message goes by itself once the check is done.

"was found to contain a virus, so it cannot be sent"

A file you uploaded into the message has a virus in it. Remove it from the message and send again. If it appears after you pressed Send, the virus was found while the message was waiting, and the message was not sent. Remove the file and send the message again.

"could not be checked for viruses, so it cannot be sent"

The virus check could not finish for a file you uploaded into the message, even after trying again, so Nemi does not send it from your address. Remove the file and attach it again, which starts a new check. If it keeps happening with the same file, put it in Nemi Files and share it as a link instead.

Pictures are missing from a message

Pictures do not load until you ask, see Pictures, links and privacy. Press Show images on the message.
