Large files and Nemi items in mail

Attach anything from Nemi, send files of any size as a link, and save what you receive to a workspace.

On this page

You can attach files from your computer, or pick them from Files, Docs and Gallery in the message itself. Attachments can add up to 25 MB per message. When they add up to more, all of them are sent as one Nemi share link instead, so the message always arrives.

  • A file you picked from Files is shared from its own workspace, under that workspace's rules for links.
  • A large file you uploaded into the message is stored in the first workspace you own and counts toward its storage while the link exists, because a link needs the file to live somewhere. It does not appear in Files, and it is deleted together with the link.
  • The link is made when you press Send, but nobody can open it until the message actually leaves. Undo send deletes it, and so does a message that cannot be sent. How long the link lasts counts from the moment the message leaves, so a message you scheduled for next week does not arrive with a link that is already running out.
  • A document, sheet, canvas or form is always sent as a link to it, never as a copy.
  • Programs, scripts, disk images and Office files with macros cannot be attached at all, because mail carrying them gets your address treated as a source of malware.

Live cards#

When you attach something from Nemi, the message carries a description of it beside the ordinary text. Somebody who reads it in Nemi Mail sees a card that is live when they open it: whether the link still works and how many files it holds, whether the meeting has started, whether they can open the document. Everybody else sees a tidy list of links in the message, which works in every mail program.

Saving what you receive#

Below a message, an attachment has Preview, Download and Save to a workspace. Saving is an ordinary upload: it needs a role in that workspace that lets you add files, and it counts toward that workspace's storage. Attachments found to contain malware are shown as Blocked and cannot be downloaded or saved.

Calendar invitations#

An invitation in a message is shown as a card with the time and place and Accept, Maybe and Decline. Your answer goes back to the organiser by mail, and accepting puts the event in your Nemi Calendar. Once the event is in your calendar, the card says In your calendar and shows the answer you gave, read from your own calendar, so it is still right after you change your answer there. The card for a Nemi event attached to a message shows the same: Going, Maybe, Not going, or In your calendar.
