Linking Gmail, Outlook and other accounts
Read and send the mail of the accounts you already have in Nemi Mail, through Google, Microsoft or IMAP.
A linked account shows up in the same inbox as your Nemi Mail address, with its own place in the sidebar. What you read, flag, move or delete in Nemi changes in that account too, and mail you send from it goes out through that account's own provider, exactly as if you had sent it there.
Linking an account#
- 1
Open Settings, Linked accounts
Choose Gmail, Outlook, or Another account.
- 2
Gmail or Outlook
Sign in with Google or Sign in with Microsoft and allow Nemi to read and send your mail. You come back to Nemi Mail when you are done.
- 3
Another account
Type the email address and the password. For iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail and other well known providers, Nemi fills in the server settings itself; for anything else press Enter server settings yourself. Nemi only connects over encrypted connections, on port 993 for IMAP and 465, 587 or 2525 for sending. Many providers need an app password here rather than your normal one, and Nemi links to where you make it.

Wait for the first import
Nemi brings in the last 90 days of mail, newest first. Large attachments are fetched when you open them.
Gmail with an app password#
If Sign in with Google is not offered, link Gmail as an IMAP account with an app password instead: turn on 2-Step Verification in your Google account, create an app password at myaccount.google.com/apppasswords, then choose Gmail, With an app password, and paste it in. Your normal Google password does not work there.
Keeping in sync#
- While Nemi Mail is open, new mail arrives within a couple of minutes. Sync now checks straight away.
- Pause, in the account's More menu, stops importing without unlinking, and Resume starts it again.
- Mail you delete for good in Nemi goes to the account's own trash, where the provider empties it on its own schedule.
- Your folders and flag colours stay in Nemi. A conversation you move into one of your folders is archived in the linked account, and Nemi never creates folders there. A flag shows in the account as its own flag or star, without the colour.
- If the account cannot be reached, what you read, flag, move or delete in Nemi is kept and sent to it as soon as it answers, including changes you made while it was paused or needed signing in again. If it keeps refusing a change for more than a day, the change is given up and the account is left as it was, so that message can look different in Nemi and in the account until it changes again.
- Imported mail counts toward your Nemi Mail storage.
Unlinking#
Unlink, in the account's More menu, deletes everything Nemi imported from that account and the sign-in it used, and for Google it also withdraws Nemi's permission at Google. Nothing is deleted in the account itself.
