Writing and sending
Undo send, sending later, reminders when nobody replies, snoozing, signatures and adding a meeting link.
On this page
Press c, or New message, to start one. Drafts save themselves as you type and appear in Drafts. If you have more than one address or a linked account, the From line lets you choose which one sends it.
- Press Cmd+Return to send. Esc closes the message and keeps it in Drafts; a message with nothing written in it is not kept.
- Discard draft deletes it for good, and asks first when there is something to lose. In Drafts, discarding a draft can be undone for a few seconds with Undo, or z.
- To, Cc and Bcc suggest people from your contacts as you type. Pasting a list adds everyone in it. In an empty field, Backspace selects the last person and a second Backspace removes them; Return on a person lets you edit the address.
- Files from your device can be up to 100 MB each. Press Send while they are still uploading and the message goes as soon as they finish.
- Every file you upload into a message is checked for viruses, which usually takes under a minute; its chip says Checking for viruses meanwhile. You can press Send straight away: the message waits until the check is done and then goes by itself, and the bottom of the screen says it sends when the virus check finishes. A file found to contain a virus says Contains a virus and cannot be sent; remove it and send again. A file the check could not finish on says Could not be checked and is not sent either; remove it and attach it again.
- Open in a new window (the button at the top of the message) moves what you are writing into a window of its own, so you can read other mail beside it. The window closes once you send, and Undo send then appears in the inbox. Closing the window keeps the message in Drafts.
Undo send#
After you press Send, the message waits for 10 seconds before it leaves, with a countdown and Undo at the bottom of the screen. Undo, or Cmd+Shift+Z, brings it back as a draft. You can change the wait, up to 30 seconds, or turn it off, in Settings, General.
Send later and reminders#
- Send later, beside Send, picks a moment for the message to go. It waits in Scheduled until then, and you can cancel it there. A scheduled message counts toward the daily limit of the day it goes out, not the day you scheduled it.
- Remind me if nobody replies brings the conversation back to the top of your inbox after the number of days you pick, unless somebody answers first.
- Snooze (h) hides a conversation until the time you choose, then brings it back to the top as unread.
- A snoozed conversation or a reminder that comes back also appears in the notification bell, until you read the conversation.
- Pin (Shift+P) keeps a conversation at the top of the list until you unpin it.
Signatures#
Settings, Signatures holds up to 20 signatures. Each one is made in one of two ways: Design, where you fill in a few fields and Nemi Mail lays them out, or HTML, where you paste or write your own. The preview beside the editor shows the signature exactly as it will be sent, and Light and Dark above it show how it looks in a light and in a dark mail client.
- 1
Press New signature
Give it a name only you see, such as Work, and keep Design selected.
- 2
Fill in what you want shown
Your name, job title, company, phone and website. Under Links add up to 5 links to LinkedIn, X, Instagram, GitHub or a website; they are shown as words rather than icons.
- 3
Add a logo or a photo
Upload a picture takes a png, jpg, gif or webp of up to 1 MB. Choose Logo or Round photo, and under Layout whether it sits above your details or to their left.
- 4
Pick a colour and a size
The accent colour is used for links and for the line beside a picture. Text size is Small or Normal.
- 5
Choose where it is used and save
Tick Use it by default in new messages and replies. With more than one address, For makes it the default for every address or for one of them. Then press Save.
To use HTML instead, choose HTML in the editor. If you were in Design, the HTML of what you designed is copied in, so you can start from it. Paste the HTML from a signature generator, or write your own, and check the preview:
- Write styles on each element (style="..."). Style sheets are removed, because most mail clients remove them anyway.
- Pictures need an https address, or upload one in Design first and switch to HTML: its address is then in the HTML for you.
- Scripts, forms, frames, links that are not web, mail or phone addresses, and pictures shaped like tracking pixels are removed. The preview lists anything that was taken out.
- A signature can be at most 64 KB of HTML.
Choosing a signature in a message#
A new message or reply starts with the default signature of the address it is sent from, and shows it under what you write. Signature under the message switches to another one or to None, and choosing another address in From switches to that address's default. The signature is added when the message is sent: after your words and above the quoted message in a reply or a forward, and it is not part of the text you edit. A draft you started before signatures worked this way keeps the signature that is already in its text.
Meetings#
In the message you can insert a Meet link, which creates a meeting and puts its link in the text.
Sending limits#
Each plan allows a number of recipients a day and a number per message, listed in Mail limits per plan. A message to three people counts as three. For the first seven days after you claim your first address, you can send to at most 50 recipients a day, whatever your plan allows, because new addresses that send a lot at once are what spam filters watch for.
