Using your mail from a connected assistant

Let Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another assistant you connected to Nemi search, read, draft, organise and, if you want, send your mail.

On this page

An assistant you connected to Nemi can work with your mail too, but only once you say so. It is off until you change it, and it needs two things from you: a choice in Mail settings, and a tick when you connect the assistant.

Turning it on#

  1. 1

    Open Mail, Settings, General

    Find Connected AI apps.

  2. 2

    Choose what it may do

Read and draft lets it search, read and list your mail, write drafts and organise conversations. Read, draft and send also lets it send. Off is the default.

  3. 3

Connect the assistant, or connect it again

On the Nemi page where you press Allow access, tick the box that lets it use Nemi Mail. An assistant you connected before has to be connected again, because a connection never gains your mail without that tick. For an access key, tick Also reach Nemi Mail when you make it.

What it can and cannot do#

  • Read: search your mail, read a conversation without quoted history, signatures or attachments, and list your inbox, unread, flagged, snoozed, archived and sent conversations, your drafts and your own folders.
  • Draft: put a reply or a new message in Drafts, or change a draft that is there.
  • Organise: archive, trash, mark read or unread, flag, mark a flag done, move to one of your folders, and snooze. Trash is not permanent: you can bring a conversation back.
  • Send, only with Read, draft and send: from one of your Nemi Mail addresses, to at most 20 people at a time, within your daily sending limit. It waits for your Undo send time like anything you send, so you can still take it back in Mail.
  • It never sees Spam or Trash, never mail from a Gmail account linked through Google, and never sends from a linked account. It cannot change your Mail settings, addresses or linked accounts.

Turning it off#

Set Connected AI apps back to Off and every connected assistant loses your mail at once, in the middle of a conversation too. To end a connection altogether, disconnect it in Settings, MCP. Nemi AI, the assistant built into Nemi, is not affected by this setting: see Nemi AI in your mail.

Will it send something without asking me?

Sending is marked as an action that cannot be undone, so a well behaved assistant asks you first. If you would rather it never sends, choose Read and draft: it can then only leave messages in Drafts for you.

A message asked my assistant to do something. Will it?

Nemi marks everything it hands over from your mail as written by somebody else, and tells the assistant not to follow instructions in it. That lowers the risk; it does not remove it, which is why sending is a separate choice.
