Mail

Your agent mailbox

An address Nemi AI answers for you: mail it files to convert, links to read, data to chart or receipts to file, and the result comes back by mail. It only does what you allow.

On this page

Your agent mailbox is one extra Nemi Mail address, answered by Nemi AI instead of by you. Mail it from any mail app or phone: attach a photo and write "make this a PDF", forward an invoice and write "file this", paste a Nemi link and ask what is in it, send a spreadsheet and ask for a chart. It does the work in your account and mails the result back, with the files attached and Nemi items as cards.

Setting it up#

  1. 1

Open Agent in the Mail sidebar

    It sits under Attachments.

  2. 2

    Choose the address

Any free name on the Nemi Mail domain. Each account has one agent address, and it does not count towards your addresses or aliases.

  3. 3

    Give it a name

What people see as the sender, for example "Guus's assistant".

  4. 4

    Press Create agent mailbox

Then mail it from one of your own addresses to try it.

Who it works for#

  • You: mail from one of your own Nemi addresses, a linked account or the email you sign in with. It only counts as you when your mail provider proves it was really sent from that address, so somebody who writes your address on a forged message gets nothing.
  • Trusted senders: addresses or whole domains you add under Senders, and if you switch them on, your contacts and the people you share a workspace with. They get their own, narrower permissions.
  • Everybody else: nothing happens and nothing is sent back. The mail is still kept for you to read.

Permissions#

Under Permissions you choose, separately for yourself and for trusted senders, what the agent may do: look in your files, create and change files, convert and compress, run code, open Nemi links, search the web, use your calendar and meetings, share with other people, read your mailbox and mail other people. Each one is Off, Ask me or On. Reading your mailbox and mailing other people are only ever for you.

  • Ask me holds the step until you decide. The agent finishes everything else and says what is waiting.
  • Deleting anything always asks you first, whatever the setting.
  • When a mail carries something you did not write yourself, such as a forwarded message, an attachment or a trusted sender's words, every step that reaches other people asks you first, even when it is switched on. A message hidden in a forwarded mail can never make the agent share your files.
  • Settings, undoing earlier answers and anything that needs a browser window are never available from mail.

Approving a step#

When you are the one who mailed it, the answer lists what is waiting. Reply yes to do all of it, or no to drop it. When a trusted sender asked, the agent mails you at your main address. Either way you can also approve or decline one step at a time under Agent, Activity. Approving runs exactly the step that was shown, and the sender then gets a follow-up mail. A step nobody decides on lapses after 72 hours.

Recipes#

A recipe is a second address that always does one thing: mail yourname+pdf@ and every attachment comes back as a PDF. Make one under Recipes, or start from a suggestion (Make it a PDF, Make it smaller, File my receipts, Brief me, Chart this). A recipe can switch permissions off or to Ask me for its own mail, but never allows more than the sender's own permissions. You can have up to 20.

Reception#

Switch on Reception under Senders to answer people you do not know from a brief you write, such as opening hours, prices or how to book. Reception never uses a tool and never sees your files: it can only repeat what is in the brief, and says that you will read the mail when the brief has no answer. Each sender gets at most three answers a day, and only when their mail provider proves the address.

Activity and limits#

  • Activity shows every mail the agent received, who it was from, what it did, what it refused, what is waiting and why a mail was not answered. Open the conversation, or the Nemi AI conversation behind it, from there.
  • Its mail is filed in the Nemi AI folder in your sidebar, and its answers appear in Sent. They count towards your daily sending limit like any mail you send.
  • Under Settings you choose the share of your weekly Nemi AI allowance it may use. When it has used that share it stops answering until the next week and tells you so.
  • It takes on at most 40 mails an hour, 12 from one sender, and gives at most 20 answers in one conversation a day. It never answers newsletters, bounces, auto-replies or another agent.
  • Files it makes from attachments are kept for 24 hours unless it saves them to your workspace. Files it saves land in the workspace you choose under Settings, on that workspace's plan.
  • Pause stops it straight away; mail still arrives in the folder. Removing it stops the address for good, and the address is never given to anybody else.
