Upload links: receiving files

A page clients can drop files onto, landing in a folder you choose, with no account needed on their side.

On this page

An upload link points the other way. It is a page at nemilab.com/u/... with your folder name on it, where somebody drags files in and they appear in your workspace. They need no account, no app and nothing installed, which is the entire reason it exists.

  1. 1

    Pick the destination folder

Everything that arrives on this link lands there. Make a folder for the job first: an upload link into your root folder becomes a mess quickly.

  2. 2

Name it and write a message

The name is the page heading. The message is a short line shown to the uploader, which is where to put "RAW files only, no JPEGs".

  3. 3

    Choose who may upload

Open, Secure or Strongest. See the table below.

  4. 4

    Set the limits

Optional password, maximum number of files, maximum total size in MB, and an expiry.

  5. 5

    Create it, and send it

Press Generate upload link and copy the URL, or type recipient addresses first and the button becomes Create and send invitations.

Who may upload#

OptionWhat it means
Open: anyone with the linkLeast restriction. A password still applies if you set one. Right for a client who will not make an account.
Secure: Nemi sign-in requiredThe recommended setting. Only signed-in Nemi users can upload.
Strongest: approved accounts onlyOnly the accounts you list. That list is never shown on the public page.

Limits and expiry#

  • Max files and Max total size (MB): leave either blank for no limit. The page shows the uploader how much of the allowance is left.
  • Expiry: 24 hours, 7 days, 14 days, 1 month, 90 days, or never. After that the page stops accepting anything.
  • Password: an extra lock on top of whichever access option you picked.
  • Email me when someone uploads: off by default, and switchable per link at any time from the link manager.

What the uploader sees#

A page with the link name, your message and a drop area. They drag files in, watch the progress, and are done. If you set a password they are asked for it first; if you chose Secure or Strongest they are asked to sign in. Files upload straight from their browser to storage, so a large delivery does not queue behind anything.

Where the files land, and whose storage they use#

In the folder you chose, in that workspace, visible to everybody in it. They count against your storage and your monthly upload allowance, never the uploader's: they may not even have an account. If you are out of room the uploader is told plainly that the folder owner has no space left, and is not shown an upgrade prompt of yours.

Managing them afterwards#

Upload links have their own tab in the link manager (⌘⇧L). Each card shows how many uploads it received, how many bytes that was, and a 30 day chart, and you can edit the folder message, limits, password, access and notification switch from there.

Two extras appear on some accounts: attaching a form to the link so uploaders answer questions as they send, and giving every uploader their own subfolder so deliveries do not mix. If you do not see them, they have not been switched on for your account yet.
