Everything you have shared with one person

Contacts lists the people you have shared with or invited. It builds itself as you work: an address you type into a share, an invitation or a guest list is a person in the list afterwards, so there is nothing to import and nothing to keep tidy. If Contacts is not in your app launcher, it has not been switched on for your account yet.

Open somebody and their page answers the question you actually have about them, which is usually "what did I send this person, and did it land". Three sections, and a section with nothing in it is not drawn at all.

• Shares. The links you emailed to that address, newest first, each one marked opened or not opened yet, with the date you sent it.
• Documents. Documents you own that this person can open.
• Meetings. Events on your calendars with them on the guest list, from 30 days back to 90 days ahead.

What the marks mean, and what they do not#

• Opened comes from the email, and an email can only report that when the recipient's mail application loads the images in it. A great many people read with images off, so "not opened yet" is not evidence that nobody read it.
• A view is only counted where the visitor said who they were, by signing in or by opening a link addressed to them. Somebody who opened your link without doing either did not go unrecorded, they are simply on the link rather than on the person. For everything one link did, use Trace.

A person with nothing behind them yet gets one quiet line instead of three empty headings. That is the normal state for somebody you have only just added, and it fills in as you send them things. It empties the same way: a link you delete takes what it recorded off the page with it.

Keeping the list tidy#

On a person’s page you can give them a name, or change one, so the list stops showing bare addresses; the name is yours alone and the person never sees it. Remove takes them out of your contacts and nothing else: your links, documents and history stay exactly as they were, and sharing with that address again quietly puts them back on the list. Email opens your mail app, and Send files takes you to your files to start a new link.
