A screen showing photos

A screen showing a library runs on its own with nobody in front of it, so it is written to say what is wrong in words rather than to fail quietly. What is on the screen is usually the whole diagnosis.

"This screen cannot show the photos"#

Nemi stores photos in the AVIF format, and that screen's browser cannot open one. This is common on televisions, whose browsers are often several years behind, and it is not something a setting fixes.

• Plug a streaming stick or a small computer into the screen and open the page there instead. Anything running a browser from the last few years works.
• Check the same page on a laptop first. If the photos show there, the screen's browser is the problem rather than the library.

"This screen is paused"#

The screen is still added, but the workspace it belongs to cannot show a library on a screen at the moment. That is almost always a plan change on the account that owns the workspace. Nothing needs doing on the screen: it starts again by itself once the workspace can show one again.

The code is not accepted#

• "That code has expired or does not exist." A code lasts ten minutes. Look at the screen again: it will have replaced the old one on its own.
• "That code has already been used." Somebody added that screen already. Reload the page on the screen to get a fresh code.
• "That is not a code from a screen." A code is six characters, and it never contains the letters I, L or O, or the digits 0 or 1. A character that looks like one of those is something else.

The screen went back to showing a code on its own#

That happens when the screen was ended in Screens in the Gallery sidebar, or when what it shows was changed, which means adding it again. Enter the new code and it starts where it left off.

The screen is on but nothing is moving#

• The library it points at may be empty. A screen with nothing to show says so.
• If the network dropped, the screen keeps the last photo up rather than going black, and picks everything up again within five minutes of the network returning.
• Some screens sleep on their own after a while. Nemi asks the screen to stay awake, but a television with its own energy-saving timer will still turn itself off, and that is a setting on the screen.
