Offline mode is not working

Offline mode is set up in Settings, Offline, and that screen answers most of what goes wrong: it lists exactly what the device is holding and how many documents are still waiting to be sent. Check it first, while you still have a connection. Working offline explains how the feature is meant to behave.

Nemi will not open at all without a connection#

• Offline mode is off on this device. It is off until switched on, per device, and switching it on somewhere else does not carry over.
• You have not opened Nemi on this device since switching it on. The part that makes the app open without a connection is stored on your next visit, so load Nemi once while connected.
• You are in a private window, or site data is blocked. Neither can store anything, so offline mode cannot work in them at all.
• The address is not the one you stored. A copy is tied to the exact site address, so a different hostname has nothing stored for it.

Something I marked is not on the device#

• The budget is full. A device keeps what it has room for. Raise the budget in Settings, Offline, or unmark something else.
• You marked it while this device was offline. Marking is stored on your account, so it needs one connected moment to reach this device and fill in.
• Include file contents is off. With it off, documents are kept and files are not.
• The workspace does not qualify. Documents and files follow the plan of whoever owns the workspace. The Offline screen says how many of your workspaces are eligible.

Edits I made offline did not arrive#

   Open the document on the device you typed on

   Unsent edits are on that device and are sent when the document is opened with a connection. Opening it somewhere else cannot send them.

   Check the Offline screen for the waiting count

   It tells you whether anything is still pending, so you know whether to keep that device to hand.

   Do not clear your browser data first

   Clearing site data on a device with unsent edits deletes them. There is no copy anywhere else.

   If they are gone, try version history

   The clock icon in the toolbar restores an earlier version. It will not contain the offline edits, but it recovers the document if something else went wrong with it.

I emptied a document offline and the text came back#

That is deliberate rather than a fault. A document that arrives completely empty cannot be told apart from an editor that never received its content, and treating the second as a real deletion is how a refresh once erased an entire document, so the previous text is always kept. Type anything into the document and the save goes through. To empty a document for good, do it while you are connected.

The copy disappeared on its own#

• The browser cleared it under storage pressure. Nemi asks to be exempted when you switch offline mode on, and most browsers grant that for a site you use often, but it is a request and not a guarantee. Free up disk space on the device.
• Somebody turned offline mode off. That deletes the whole copy on that device, by design.
• The plan changed. If the workspace owner moved to a plan without offline, the copy is removed. Anything already sent to us is safe.
• You cleared site data. That removes it along with everything else the site stored.
