Putting back what it changed

When Nemi AI changes something, a line appears under its answer: Changed 12 things. Restore everything from before this. Pressing it puts the whole turn back at once, in one go, without you having to work out what it did.

It works per turn, not per action. A turn is everything from the message you sent to the answer you got, however many things it did in between, so a sort that made four folders and moved two hundred files is one press.

How to use it#

   Read the line under the answer

   It says how many things changed. What changed opens the list, written in plain language rather than as ids.

   Press Restore everything from before this

   Every change goes back, newest first. The button is not available while the assistant is still writing, because a turn that has not finished cannot be put back yet.

   Read what came back

   The line becomes Restored 12 changes. Anything that could not go back is listed with the reason, and it is still in place.

You can also just ask. "Undo what you just did" puts back the most recent turn that still has changes standing, using the same record rather than guessing.

Pressing it a second time does nothing more. What is back is back, and nothing is undone twice.

What goes back#

• Files. A rename goes back to the old name. A move goes back to the folder it came from, or to the top of the workspace if that is where it started. A file the assistant made or uploaded is removed, to your trash if your plan has one. A file it put in the trash comes back to where it was.
• Folders. A rename and a colour go back. A folder it made is removed, but only if it is still empty: if somebody has put something in it since, the folder is left alone and the reason says so.
• Download links. A link it made is revoked. Settings it changed on a link go back to what they were.
• Upload links. A link it made is switched off. One it switched off is switched back on.
• Spreadsheet cells. Cells it filled in go back to the values they held, and cells that were empty are cleared again.
• Photos. Photos it moved to the Gallery trash come back. Stars go back to how they were, on exactly the photos it changed. Photos it filed into an album are taken out again, and an album it made is removed.

What cannot go back#

Some things genuinely cannot be reversed, and the line says how many of them there were rather than quietly leaving them out of the count.

• Anything deleted for good. A file deleted permanently, and a folder deleted with it, are gone. This is why the trash matters: on a paid plan a delete goes there and can come back, and on the free plan it does not.
• A revoked download link. Revoking deletes the link. The same files can be shared again, but that address will not work again.
• Documents, canvases and forms it deleted. Deleting one of these is not undone here.
• Calendar events it deleted. An event that came back would be sent to the calendar it is synced with as a new event, which is a conflict rather than an undo.
• Files sent with Beam. They have already left for the other device.
• Edits it made in an editor you had open. Those go straight into the live document, where the editor's own undo is the thing to use.

How long you have#

The record of what a turn changed is kept for 30 days and then removed, so a turn older than that no longer offers the line. Deleting the conversation removes it straight away.

Pressing the button costs nothing: it uses none of your weekly allowance. Asking for it in words is an ordinary message and is charged as one, like anything else you send, though the restore it sets off adds nothing on top.
