Browsing and organising

Folders, pinning, stars, colours, sorting, selection and the right-click menu, plus the keyboard shortcuts that make all of it faster.

On this page

The sidebar has three places: Home, which is the workspace itself, Starred, and Trash. Everything else is folders, and the breadcrumb trail above the file list says where you are. Click any part of it to jump back up.

The toolbar changes with your selection: pick a file and it grows Share, Convert, Compress, Download, Rename, Move and Delete.

Moving, renaming and colouring#

  • Move by dragging onto a folder, or with Move in the toolbar or the right-click menu when you want to pick a destination from a list.
  • Rename with F2, or Rename in the menu.
  • Customize on a folder sets its colour, so a project folder can be told apart at a glance. Files take their colour from their type.
  • Star marks a file so it appears under Starred. Stars are for files.
  • Pin puts a folder in the sidebar under Pinned folders, where you can drag pins into the order you want. Pins are for folders.

Sorting and how it looks#

The slider icon beside the breadcrumbs opens the view menu, and what you set there is remembered on that device.

Picking the sort you already have flips between ascending and descending. In list view the column headers do the same thing, and the columns can be dragged wider or into another order.

Selecting several things#

Click to select one. Shift and click extends the selection to that item, command or control and click adds and removes one at a time, and dragging on empty space draws a box around everything it touches. Once more than one thing is selected, the toolbar acts on all of it: one share link for the lot, one zip, one move.

The rest of the right-click menu#

  • Share link puts a link on the selection, with the same settings as the toolbar button.
  • Generate upload link on a folder makes a page other people can drop files onto, which land in that folder. See Upload links.
  • Collaborate on a folder invites somebody to that one folder with a permission you choose, rather than to the whole workspace.
  • Open as Nemi Doc and Open as Nemi Sheet import a Word file or a spreadsheet into an editable Nemi document. If you do not see them, they have not been switched on for your account yet.
  • Preview and Open do what Space and Enter do, for when your hands are already on the mouse.

Finding something#

Press command and K (control and K elsewhere) and type. The command menu searches files and folders across the workspace and also runs actions such as making a folder, starting a conversion or extracting an archive, so it is usually quicker than clicking to the right place first.

Can two people organise the same folders?

Yes. Files are shared with the whole workspace, so everybody with edit rights sees the same tree. What each person may do is set by their role: see Members and roles.

Why can I not rename or move anything?

You are probably a viewer in that workspace. Viewers see everything and can download, but cannot change it.

Do stars and pins show up for my colleagues?

They are yours, per workspace. Folder colours are part of the folder, so everybody sees those.
