Sharing and publishing a document
The difference between the workspace seeing a document, sending somebody a link, and putting it on the open web.

There are three different things people mean by sharing a document, and they behave differently. The workspace sees it already. A link gives one person or one group access. Publishing puts a read-only copy of it on the open web at a nemilab.com address anybody can open.
The workspace
Every member already sees and edits every document in it. Nothing to send.

Press Share in the editor and type an email address or an @username. They get an invitation, and the document appears for them once they accept. The list under the field shows who you have invited and whether they have joined yet, and the bin icon beside a name removes their access again.
Sharing with a link#
Share
Off means a guest can open it without signing in.
Can view is enforced by the server, not by hiding buttons: a viewer gets no composer, no reply box, no resolve and no delete, and a request to change the document is refused even if somebody constructs one by hand. Can edit lets a guest write in the document and add images, and images they add count against your storage rather than theirs, because a guest has no account to charge.
Publishing to the web#
The Publish to the web switch in the Share panel turns the document into a public read-only page at an address like nemilab.com/p/.... Anyone with that address can read it, no account and no password, and search engines may find it. The page shows the last saved state and updates on every save, so it is a live copy rather than a snapshot. Switching publishing off makes the address stop working.
Where publishing is available, an option to let readers comment without a Nemi account may appear with it. Those comments arrive in the comments panel marked as Guest, and you can resolve or delete them.
Taking a copy out, locked#
Open Settings in the editor toolbar for the document's own security options. Alongside a plain .nemi download there is an encrypted export: type a passphrase of at least four characters twice, and the file you download is encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Without the passphrase the contents cannot be read, by anybody, including us. There is no recovery for a forgotten passphrase, which is the point of it.

Does the published page show edits as I type?
It shows the last saved version, and documents save continuously, so in practice it is seconds behind. It is not a live view of your cursor.
Can I see who opened the link?
Document links do not report opens the way file share links do. If you need that, put the exported file in Files and share it from there. See Trace.
I changed my mind about a link I sent.
Open Share and switch Anyone with the link off. The address stops working for everybody, including people who already have it open.
