Events, invitations and repeats

Everything on the event editor, how guests are emailed, and what happens when you change one occurrence of a repeating event instead of the whole series.

On this page

Click an event to open the editor. It saves as you close it, and a change to an event on a connected calendar is on its way to that provider before the panel has finished closing.

The same rows in the same order every time, whichever calendar the event came from.

Busy or free decides whether an event blocks your time or merely marks it. A clash with something already on your calendar is stated under the time, but never prevented: double-booking yourself is sometimes exactly what you meant.

Inviting guests#

Type an email address into Guests. There is no separate send button: an address is emailed the invitation when you add it and the event saves, and an address that was already on the event is never mailed again no matter how often you edit. Remove somebody and add them back and they are mailed again, which is the correct reading of that action.

The message carries a calendar file, so a guest can add it to whatever they use without a Nemi account. Answers that come back through a connected Google or Outlook account show up beside each guest, and an invitation you declined elsewhere is drawn struck through, or hidden entirely if you turn off "Show events you declined" in settings.

Invitations are sent from Nemi on your behalf, so they count towards your monthly email allowance, the same one used by share links and upload links. At most 50 addresses are mailed per save.

Repeats#

Press the repeat row and pick a preset, or press Custom for anything else: every other Tuesday, the last Friday of the month, weekdays until December. A custom rule is built from three things, an interval, which days it lands on, and when it stops, which can be never, after a number of times, or on a date.

A repeating event brought in from Google or Outlook can be edited here like any other, rather than being read-only, because Nemi understands the same repeat rules those providers use.

Changing one occurrence or the whole series#

Edit or delete a repeating event and Nemi asks which ones you mean before anything is written. It never guesses.

ChoiceWhat happens
This event onlyJust that one date changes. The rest of the series is untouched, and the changed one keeps its own time from then on.
This and all followingThe series is cut at that date: everything from there onwards takes the change, everything before it stays as it was.
All events in the seriesEvery occurrence changes, including ones already in the past.

Times, all-day events and zones#

  • A timed event is a moment, so it moves with the zone you are reading it in. If you pin a zone in settings, it is shown in that zone everywhere.
  • An all-day event is a date, not a moment, so a birthday on 12 August stays on 12 August wherever you open it.
  • A repeating event keeps the wall clock it was created on. A weekly 09:00 stays at 09:00 across a daylight saving change instead of drifting to 08:00.

Getting an event out of Nemi#

The download button on the editor saves the event as an .ics file, which every calendar application can open. Use it to hand one event to somebody who is not being invited by email, or to move something into an application Nemi does not sync with.

Reminders are rolling out separately. Where they are switched on, an alert only appears in a Nemi tab that is actually open, and a desktop notification additionally needs the browser permission, which you grant from a button in calendar settings. Nothing is asked for when the page loads.

If an edit of yours does not appear in Google or Outlook, look at Connections first: an account showing "Access expired" has stopped syncing, and the fix is Reconnect, not waiting.
