Working with guests in a room
What somebody without a Nemi account can see and do in your room, and what a password, an expiry and guest uploads actually change.

A guest is somebody holding the link. They do not sign in, they are not invited, and there is nothing in Nemi with their name on it. They open the page, see the room's name, your name under it, your note and the files, and can open or download any of them, one by one or all at once. If you have allowed uploads, they can also add files, answer the lines on your list, and write in the room.
That is deliberately the whole model. The link is the credential, exactly as with a share link, so everything below is about controlling the link rather than about controlling people.
The three settings that matter#
Room settings
Lets anybody with the link add files to the room.
Rotate it and the old one stops working straight away.
- Guest uploads. Off means the room is a one way handover. On means the same page grows a drop area. Turning it off later leaves everything already uploaded in place.
- Password. The room asks for it before showing a single file name. Once a guest gets it right, that browser stays unlocked for an hour and then asks again.
- Expiry date. The room closes itself on that date. Useful for anything you would otherwise have to remember to switch off.
When a guest uploads#
Guests are asked for a name once, at the top of the page, and it is optional, so a file can arrive from nobody in particular. Whatever they type travels with everything they do in the room: it sits next to their uploads, next to the lines they provided, and on anything they write. Uploaded files land in your workspace under Rooms/ and the room's name, which is where to look for them later.

Turning guest uploads off does more than remove the drop area: a line on your list that asks for a file has no way to be answered, and the room says so instead of offering a button that cannot work. If you want a list without uploads, ask for confirmations rather than files.
What guests never get to see#
- Anything outside the room. Not the folder it came from, not your other rooms, not your workspace.
- Who has opened the room, and how often. That is on your side only.
- Your other guests' identities beyond the names they typed themselves. Two people sharing one link share one room, so each can see what the other provided and wrote.
- Your account, your plan, your storage or any of your settings.
When something is not showing up#
I added a file and the client cannot see it
Newly uploaded files are scanned before they are shown to guests, so a large one can take a moment to appear on their side while it is already visible on yours. If it never appears, the scan flagged it: contact support@nemilab.com if you believe that is wrong.
The client says the link does not work
Check whether the room is archived, past its expiry date, or whether the link was rotated after you sent it. All three end the old link. An archived or expired room can be reopened on the same link with Reopen, so the client does not need a new one. A rotated link is gone for good and the new one has to be sent.
Their upload failed
The room may be full, at 100 files or 10 GB, the file may be larger than your plan allows, or your storage may be full. The message they see says which, except for your storage: then they are only told the link has no room left. See Storage and usage.
Can I stop one person without stopping the others?
No. There is one link and it is the key, so the granular version of this is a room per client, which is also how the active room limit is meant to be spent.
