Whiteboard, notes and polls
The board and the notes are ordinary Nemi documents that outlive the call. Polls are not kept anywhere, and their results go into the notes.
Three things in a Meet call end up somewhere afterwards, and the difference between them is worth ten seconds of your attention: the whiteboard and the notes are real Nemi documents that are still there tomorrow, and a poll is not kept at all.
The whiteboard#
Press the whiteboard button and a board opens in a panel beside the call. It is not a drawing surface invented for meetings: it is an ordinary Nemi Canvas document, so everybody draws on it at the same time exactly the way they would in Canvas, and it is still there when the call ends.
- The board belongs to the host and lives in the host's workspace. Opening it hands everybody in the call, guests included, a link that lets them draw on it.
- Anything you put on the board is visible to the other participants and stays with the host afterwards.
- The host can revoke that link from the board itself in Canvas at any time, or give it a password or an expiry. Once revoked, the board opens only for people who have their own access to it.
- The link at the top of the panel opens the board in a full tab, which is worth doing when the board is the reason the meeting happened.
The notes#
The meeting notes are an ordinary Nemi document, also owned by the host. They are written when somebody who had captions on leaves the call, and they collect what was said, the chat, and the results of any polls.

Nothing is written unless somebody had captions on, since the transcript is what the document is built around.
Because the document belongs to the host, a guest does not get a copy. Ask the host to share it, which is an ordinary share link on an ordinary document. If nobody in the call turned captions on, there are no notes to share: see Backgrounds, blur and captions.
Polls#
A poll is for the ten seconds where asking it is useful. Open Polls, type a question, give it between two and six answers, and everybody votes with one tap.
- Results are live for everybody as votes come in, rather than hidden until the poll closes.
- Voting again replaces your previous answer instead of adding to it, so nobody can stuff it.
- The host can close a poll, which freezes it on screen.
- A poll is never stored. It exists while the call does and disappears with it. What survives is the result, written into the notes.
What to check afterwards#
Where do I find the board after the meeting?
In the host's Canvas, named after the meeting. It is an ordinary document, so it can be renamed, shared, published or deleted like any other.
The board shows a sign-in page instead of the drawing.
The host has revoked, expired or password-protected the link on that document. Ask them to reopen it, or to share the board with you directly.
Deleting the meeting removed the chat. Did it remove the board and notes?
No. Those are documents in the host's workspace and outlive the meeting entirely. Delete them where they live if you want them gone.
I have no whiteboard or polls button.
They are still rolling out and they follow the host's account. If the host does not have them switched on yet, nobody in that meeting does.
